Backup

Every 15 days the WPulsePen software automatically makes the default patient archive backup, "WPPArch.dbd", upon consent. The backup is saved in compressed format as "WPPArch_AutoBackup_yyyymmdd.zip" (four digits for the year, two for the month and two for the day).

Archive and backup files are contained in the "WPulsePen_Data" folder.

To prevent the "WPulsePen_Data" folder from growing exponentially with subsequent backups, automatic backup files older than 70 days are automatically deleted if there are at least 5 automatic backup files present.

Below the following icon is a horizontal bar that graphically indicates the time remaining until the next automatic backup.

Figure: Back up

At any time you can manually back up the current archive file by clicking on the icon.
These files are saved as "ArchiveName_Backup_yyyymmdd.zip".

It is recommended to periodically save backup copies to an external storage device, such as an external hard drive, a USB stick, ...

To recover patients and exams contained in a backup file (.zip), proceed as follows:
- close the PulsePen software.
- go to the "WPulsePen_Data" folder and extract the .dbd file from the compressed .zip file you wish to restore. The extracted .dbd file will be visible in the list of archives available in the PulsePen software once restarted (see Archive/Miscellaneous).

To recover patients and exams contained in a backup file (.zip) generated with a software version prior to rev. 2.3.3, we recommend that you proceed as follows:
- close the PulsePen software.
- Create the "Backup" subfolder in "WPulsePen_Data".
- extract the archive file (.dbd) contained in the compressed archive (.zip) you wish to restore into the "Backup" subfolder.
- rename the .dbd file just extracted, adding for example the creation date (as the last digits of the .zip file).
- move it to "WPulsePen_Data".

- Eg. WPPArch_AutoBackup_20250231.zip containing the archive file "WPPArch.dbd" saved on 31 Feb 2025: once you have extracted "WPPArch.dbd" into the "Backup" subfolder of "WPulsePen_Data", rename it as "WPPArch_20250231.dbd", move it into "WPulsePen_Data" and select it (see Archive/Miscellaneous).
